Jim White's investment focus is on technology companies spanning both enterprise and consumer markets. He currently serves on the boards of Eversight,,  Satmetrix,  SilverRail Technologies and Smartsheet. In addition, Jim  represents SHV's investments in C3, Naval Ravikant's The Hit Forge and Vlocity.  

Jim's past investments are: (acquired by YHOO), Data Domain (IPO DDUP, then acquired by EMC), Farecast (acquired by MSFT), Forterra (acquired by SAIC), Infinera (IPO: INFN),  Inquira (acquired by ORCL), Networks in Motion (acquired by TSYS), Object Reservoir (acquired by Halliburton HAL), Ourpictures (acquired by ROVI), Radiance (acquired by Comcast), Right Hemisphere (acquired by SAP), Room77 (acquired by GOOG), Shutterfly (IPO: SFLY), Streetline Networks (acquired by Kapsch), and Vocalocity.

Jim has been named several times to the Forbes Midas List  and to the AlwaysOn Top 100 VC List

Jim joined Sutter Hill Ventures in the fall of 2000 from Macromedia Inc. In his four years with Macromedia he held the position of VP of Marketing and then GM of the Interactive Learning Division which was acquired by IBM Software Group. Prior to Macromedia, Jim was a VP of Marketing for Silicon Graphics. In his eight years at SGI he helped to start and build their 3D graphics workstation business. Jim began his career with the Hewlett-Packard Company in the PC division and was part of the core team that created the Vectra Product line spending time in engineering, sales and product marketing.  

He received a BS in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University in 1984 and an MBA from Harvard University in 1989.
